DESIGNER.

I’ve always had an affinity for visual art and a love of computers. When I began using software like Photoshop in highschool, I was sold on my future involving graphic design.

During my time at Fanshawe, I learned the Adobe suite, utilizing Photoshop and Illustrator extensively for creating design assets. I also learned best practices for file and data management that allow me to build lean websites that load quickly across all devices.

I enjoy applying the artistry of graphic design to websites to elevate the user experience. I have a flexible approach to design, taking into account the feeling my clients hope to evoke with their brand. I also like to create new and interactive effects using back-end code to make what’s on screen into an experience.

About Me

Hello, I’m Jeremy.

I’m a website developer and graphic designer based in Paris, Ontario. I’ve been involved in web development for about three years and have worked on a range of websites for small and mid-sized companies. I'm flexible with the projects I take on, but I most enjoy flexing my creative muscles and making unique, stand-out sites. In my free time, I enjoy playing games with friends and adventuring outdoors with family.

I earned a diploma in Interactive Media Design at Fanshawe College. This program had a strong focus on building diverse skill sets to include visual and back-end web development.

DEVELOPER.

Computer coding makes me feel like the hacker in a heist movie. There is something incredibly satisfying about conceptualizing a feature and watching it come to fruition on the webpage. I’m also a passionate troubleshooter.

I’m well versed in using HTML and CSS to bring design mockups to life on the webpage. One of the things I enjoy the most about working with these languages is that they are always evolving, allowing me to use new tools and features as I improve as a web developer.

Javascript is what gets me excited about web development. It allows me to be extremely creative in guiding a visitor through the content on a website. In conjunction with JS, I’ve utilized JSON, AJAX, PHP, MySQL and other server-side scripts to create dynamic content. I have recently trained in VUE.js and Laravel and am always excited to add new languages and libraries to my repertoire.

C'Angelina Catering

I worked with a local catering business to design and develop their website from start to finish. C'angelina's has no set menu and encourages customers to make custom requests that they fulfill using their commercial kitchen. With only minimal online presence, C'Angelinas tasked me with creating a website that consolidated and showcased their unique catering style. This was a great experience working with a smaller company that needed a lot of help modernizing their business.

Since this was their first website, I took the lead on creating the site structure and content. I met regularly to gather assets and details about their branding and their intended customer experience. I designed the webpage with their unique menu foremost in my mind, creating a Q&A page as well as a comprehensive home page to simplify user navigation. I designed an engaging page for each facet of their business they wished to highlight. I created a database to add their products dynamically to their menu page. I currently provide hosting services and server management for C'angelina.

I created mockup pages in both desktop and mobile to guide the clients through the site structure design process.

The webpage is built from scratch with HTML, CSS, and JS. I utilized PHP and MySQL to manage the database.

Working with old graphics and little branding was challenging but also allowed me to create a stand-out feel for the site.

Organ Donation

This organ donation proposal site was a group project during my time at Fanshawe College. The project required not only working as a group of designers and developers, but also working with and presenting our proposals to a marketing company partnered with the school and the Ontario government.

Each group member contributed to the design and building process. We were also tasked with creating videos and marketing assets that complimented the website. The main goal was to modernize the marketing approach for getting the opt-in organ donar sheets filled out. My primary role on this cooperative project was back-end development. I created the admin account management as well as the contact management system that allowed someone with no website development experience to edit text and media through their account. I also developed a section that allowed visitors to add a positive story of their own that could be cleared by an admin to show on the site on a carousel.

Data showed a lack of motivation to be the cause of low opt-in rates over an unwillingness to donate. Our marketing focused on emphasizing the speed at which someone could sign up and the impact it could have.

Most of my major contribution was the back-end work, managing databases and server requests. Every page has its content populated from my databases.

To allow the site owners to modify and maintain the content, I built an admin panel where master admins could manage other admins and pages could be manipulated.

KAJABI / CSS / JS

Gowan Consulting

I worked with Gowan Consulting to refresh their website on a new platform. This involved migrating relevant content from their previous Wordpress site to the course-centric web platform Kajabi. Collaborating with the marketing team we developed a new site layout and page design to keep the complex content organized and developmentally streamlined.

Utilizing Kajabi's development tools, I built these pages in a logical manner to enable the team at Gowan to take over and manage the website after its development. I also used custom code to implement Gowan's unique requests for additional functionality outside of Kajabi's building parameters. This included a custom sidebar and a modified navigation.

I used Kajabi's website theme and design tools to create the sleek, modern look.

Custom code sections allowed me to generate workable objects and run Javascript to add new functionality.

Kajabi's tools allowed for quick turnover on new page content as they were compiled.

VUE.js / Laravel (Sanctum)

Ventiri

Ventiri is both a single page application as well as an API for tabletop RPG games. The front-end displays and sorts the stats and information provided from the API built in Laravel.

This is my own project which aims to further my understanding of these frameworks and keep me up to date with new advancements in the field.

The user can login and retrieve, edit or delete the data they have created on their account.

I created the front-end so that it can be duplicated to add additional categories and classes of RPG statblocks.

Adding to and revising the code on both the front-end and API enables me to keep up to date on new features and best practices with these frameworks.
